Distinguished international lawyer and human rights advocate Madeleine Rees, Secretary General of WILPF, will deliver the next Chrystal Macmillan Lecture. During her visit, Madeleine will receive an honorary degree from the University of Edinburgh and SPS will host a series of events around the themes of her career: human rights, women, peace and security. As part of these events, a screening of These Dangerous Women will be hosted by Dr Rachel Howell (Sociology) and Claire Robertson (MSc student).
The documentary depicts the story of 1300 women from warring and neutral nations who came together in the Hague in 1915 to find a way towards peace. They became the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom. Modern members of WILPF and young volunteers worked together to uncover the truth about these women who Churchill called "dangerous".
