Critical Perspectives

GPRG Members Fiona Mackay and Meryl Kenny have contributed to an agenda setting collection of essays entitled Critical Perspectives on Feminist Institutionalism, published in 2009 in the APSA journal Politics & Gender.

The collection explores the limits and possibilities of the dominant institutionalist approaches. Each of the first four pieces outlines the potential contribution of their preferred type - rational choice, historical, sociological, and discursive institutionalism - to a feminist institutionalism. The final contribution stands back and taking a more critical stance, considers what gendered and institutionally-focussed feminist work could contribute to mainstream institutionalist understandings of structure and agency in political life.
