ESRC Quota Awards Available

The department has been awarded two ESRC studentships for entry in September 2010 – either for the MSc by Research in Politics followed by the PhD (1+3) or for the PhD in Politics only (+3). The ESRC is the main British funding body for research in the social sciences. A studentship typically covers EU fees and maintenance for the duration of the academic programme. Students who are eligible for ESRC funding must first apply for a place on those programmes through the online application system, and are strongly encouraged to discuss their application with Professor Cecile Fabre, the convenor for research students (c.fabre@ed.ac.uk). Note that students in political theory who have completed a ESRC-recognized MSc elsewhere, in all fields of political science (including political theory) are more than welcome to apply to us for a +3 ESRC studentship.

At the point of applying they should indicate whether or not they wish to consider for the ESRC studentships. Students will be considered for the ESRC only if they have been made an offer of a place on the programme. The studentships decision will be made by a departmental committee in the second fortnight of February 2010. Accordingly, our internal deadline for the full application is February 1st 2010, at the very latest.
