McEwen awarded ESRC Senior Scotland Fellowship
Dr Nicola McEwen, Senior Lecturer in Politics and Director of Public Policy for the Academy of Government, has been awarded a prestigious ESRC fellowship to study the implications of Scottish independence.
Her project will explore the ‘British dimension’ of independence, by researching the prospects of shared cross-border services and institutions in two policy fields – energy and social security – and the governmental arrangements that might be needed to oversee them. The research involves comparisons with Ireland and the Nordic countries, and is heavily focused on informing debate in the run-up to Scotland’s independence referendum in 2014.
Nicola is one of only seven scholars from across the UK to be awarded a Senior Scotland Fellowship. Three of these awards were won by academics at the University of Edinburgh, underlining the University’s position at the forefront of cutting edge research and public engagement.
