As a Professor of African and Development Studies, Acting Director of the Centre of African Studies and Director of the Global Development Academy, James Smith has spent much of his time in South Africa, a country which has influenced his career and shaped him as a person.
He shares his experiences of the country, its culture, its people and its beloved Mandela in a recent article for EUSA Global - a project run by the Edinburgh University Students’ Association which aims to enhance the global community for all students across the University of Edinburgh.
