University honours Professor Joyce Lishman
At the 9th July degree ceremony, the University of Edinburgh awarded Professor Joyce Lishman with the Degree of Doctor honoris causa, as part of the centenary celebrations and in recognition of her services to social work education and social work.
Professor Lishman is a graduate of the social work programme at Edinburgh who went on to become a Scottish and world leader in social work education and social work. She is especially remembered for putting social work research on the map with the publication of the highly respected book series, Research Highlights in Social Work. She led the social work programme at the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen for many years, and at the same time, took a leadership role on behalf of the social work education community in Scotland. She is deeply commited to the work of the voluntary sector in Scotland and is co-founder of the venture philanthropy organisation, Inspiring Scotland, as well as being a Director of the Aberlour Childcare Trust and a trustee of Voluntary Services Aberdeen. Professor Viv Cree gave professor Lishman's laureation at the ceremony.
