Women in Academia
On the 19 May 2016 the School of Social and Political Science organised a half-day seminar entitled Women in Academia. The event focused on the career progression undertaken, and career development ‘lessons learned’, by women on their journey to achieving academic positions within the higher education sector.
The event featured a range of women researchers and academic staff from across our School, who were able to talk about their personal career journeys and current positions, and included:
- Professor Catherine Lyall
- Dr Mary Holmes
- Dr Meryl Kenny
- Professor Janet Carsten
- Professor Christina Boswell
- Dr Morag Treanor
Following the seminar, a ‘speed mentoring’ event took place that enabled career advice to be sought from a number of experienced women academic colleagues drawn from across SPS.
Also focusing on the career pathway's of mid-career women researchers is a report published in 2016 through the Royal Society of Edinburgh Young Academcy of Scotland, entiled Academic Women Now: experiences of mid-career academic women in Scotland (PDF, 4MB).
