People+ is an SPS initiative which aims to strategically support staff and help facilitate their development as their careers with the School progress. Key to these objectives is seeking to offer solutions to challenges of achieving equality, diversity, well-being, and a healthy work-life balance across the School.
To achieve its objectives People+ is taking a broad perspective through involving a wide range of participants from across the School – including: academic staff; professional and support staff; research postgraduates; tutors; and postdoctoral fellows – to examine how the School performs in relation to the areas identified above, and to determine how our approach can be further enhanced.
A team of colleagues has been established to drive forward People+ activities, with an initial focus on seeking to achieve a Bronze Award for the Athena Swan Charter, which seeks to recognise advancement of gender equality within higher education, including all subject areas, professional and support staff, and gender identifications.
Whilst initially focusing on gender equality, the intention of the People+ initiative is to progressively widen its work to encompass all protected characteristics, and in achieving this the delivery team would welcome input from colleagues from across the School.
