Foreign Policy Analysis & Role Research Group
Welcome to the Foreign Policy Analysis & Role Research Group. We are a research group within the Centre for Security Research. We welcome research students and staff from across Politics and International Relations at Edinburgh, and beyond. The group's aim is to provide peer support to staff and PhD studentsworking on foreign policy research, from foreign policy analysis to political psychology and role research. Members have the opportunity to present their work and receive feedback in an intensive but friendly environment. The research group meets several times per semester with papers circulated in advance and the expectation that all attendees have read the papers.

The group also organizes an annual event and last year hosted its very first Foreign Policy Analysis and Role Research Conference. The conference brought together fellow PhD researchers and academics from Durham University, University of Bath, St. Andrew's University, University of Heidelberg, and even the University of Helsinki in Edinburgh. Speakers presented their research on a diverse range of topics, including China’s foreign policy, Iranian presidents, the EU’s role as aninternational actor and Scottish independence, to an audience of master’s students, PhD researchers and academics. The day concluded with workshops, during which the research group and guests were able to discuss research agendas and papers in more detail. The conference was a great success and created a platform for collaboration and further activity in this field of research.
