Distance Learning and CPD

Building on our existing e-learning projects, which have been successful in delivering modular, flexible postgraduate research training, the school has plans to develop our provision of e-learning and distance learning resources; initially with a PG Certificate in Africa and International Development available from autumn 2011.

We take the JISC e-learning pedagogy programme definition of e-learning as ‘learning facilitated and supported through the use of information and communications technology (ICT)’. We employ ICTs for teaching and learning that is pedagogically sound, student-focused and accessible.

We aim to enhance the range of pedagogic uses of e-learning by staff and students and to support the delivery of blended and flexible learning environments on campus and for students studying at a distance. In this way we can respond to a large and diverse learner population, providing opportunities for more flexible ways of studying, full-time, part-time and as a part of work-based learning and professional development.
