The School of Social and Political Science is pleased to announce the availability of PhD studentships funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).
Appplicants must be students from the UK or EU countries, and satisfy the eligibility criteria of the ESRC.
The University of Edinburgh is the hub for a new Scotland-wide Doctoral Training Centre which is funded and accredited by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).
This will provide world-class postgraduate research and training in the social sciences across a wide range of disciplines, known as 'pathways'. The Scottish DTC has 65 fully-funded ESRC studentships available for (UK and EU) students commencing their postgraduate studies in the 2011/12 academic year.
The following types of ESRC studentship are funded:
Studentships are available across the DTC 23 subject or interdisciplinary pathways at any of the participating institutions. For further information about the Scottish DTC and pathways, please see the Scottish Graduate School of Social Science DTC website.
If you wish to apply for an ESRC award to be held at the School of Social and Political Science, you should contact the relevant Subject Area Postgraduate Advisor as soon as possible to discuss your proposal and your interest in the ESRC awards. They will also help identify a suitable PhD supervisor. The application process is as follows:
1) Application for admission via EUCLID. Please adhere to guidance for this, even where requirements differ from ESRC requirements (e.g. Research Proposal length).

2) Application for studentship. Full details can be found at the Scottish Graduate School of Social Science website.
We strongly recommend that you contact the relevant Subject Area as soon as possible, and that all necessary application information is completed by mid-March.
It is likely that decisions will be announced in early May.
