Language Requirements

For entry to our Postgraduate Programmes in September 2012, our English Language Requirements for non-native English speakers are:

All programmes within the Graduate School of Social and Political Science, with the exception of those listed below:

IELTS 7.0 (with at least 6.0 in each section) from one sitting

TOEFL-iBT 100 (with no score lower than 20 in each section) from one sitting.

Pearson Test of English: 67 (with no score lower than 56 in each section)

CPE Grade B

CAE Grade A

A degree from an English speaking University may be accepted in some circumstances

MSc by Research Politics

MPhil Politics

PhD Politics

IELTS 6.5 (with 6.0 in each section) from one sitting

TOEFL-iBT 92 (with no score lower than 20 in each section) from one sitting.

Pearson Test of English: 61 (with no score lower than 56 in each section)

CPE Grade C

CAE Grade B

A degree from an English speaking University may be accepted in some circumstances

Applicants currently studying at a University where the Programme is both taught and examined in English must provide official evidence of this.  This would be an official letter, signed and dated on University letter headed paper.

Applicants who currently hold an English language qualification which does not meet our minimum entry requirements may still apply for a postgraduate degree within the School of Social and Political Science. Any offer issued under these circumstances would then be conditional on providing an improved qualification at the specified level.
