M.Sc. International Political Theory Ph.D. Funding Workshop, 2011
Many of you will be thinking about continuing on to doctoral work after you complete the M.Sc. in International Political Theory at Edinburgh.
Monday 16 January 2012, 1-5pm
Seminar Room, 21 George Square
Many of you will be thinking about continuing on to doctoral work after you complete the M.Sc. in International Political Theory at Edinburgh. For some, this plan will depend on obtaining funding to support your research. We’re aware that applying for funding can seem like a complicated process, and that it’s hard to get to grips with deadlines, proposals, and references, all while completing coursework. To help you in the process, we’ve organised a Funding Workshop for on track M.Sc. students planning to apply for Ph.D. funding. This is of course an optional event: those not intending to continue to the Ph.D. or to apply for funding should not feel obliged to attend.
It’s important to note that 16 January shouldn’t be the first time you think about funding and proposals. The deadline for internal applications for funding for Internal Scholarships is 1 February 2012. Other external funding deadlines fall shortly after. As such, you should be thinking about, and actively drafting, a proposal over the Christmas break. We’ll ask you to bring copies of this draft of your proposal to the workshop to be worked on.
Discussion of deadlines and application process funding for: University/College/School awards, AHRC/ESRC awards, Carnegie Trust awards, Jacobsen Bursaries and Analysis Fellowship, Society for Applied Philosophy Awards. There will also be a proposal writing/redrafting session, with examples from previously successful applications. Along with advice about covering letters, CVs, and how to manage references.
