Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Doctoral Scholarships
The deadline for 2019 applications has now passed.
The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation doctoral scholarships are available to Canadian citizens who are full-time first or second year students registered (or in the process of registering) in a doctoral programme outside of Canada.
The scholarship awards $40,000 per year for three years, plus up to an additional $20,000 annually to support research-related travel, each scholarship holder is also paired with an accomplished Canadian mentor.
The scholarships will be awarded to applicants who are applying to study a full-time PhD programme in the humanities and social sciences in the 2019-2020 academic year, or on-programme students in their first or second year of a full-time PhD programme in the humanities and social sciences.
Applicants must be Canadian citizens.
The Foundation encourages a range of applicants from the full range of disciplines within the humanities and social sciences, particularly from those who are doing research in areas related to four major themes that reflect central questions in the life and works of Pierre Elliott Trudeau:
- Human Rights and Dignity
- Responsible Citizenship
- Canada in the World
- People and their Natural Environment
Past Foundation scholars have studied anthropology, communications, criminology, economics, environmental sciences, history, law, literature, management sciences, philosophy, political science, public health, social work, and sociology, among others.

Candidates interested in the Foundation’s doctoral scholarships should visit https://trudeaufdn.fluxx.io/apply/scholars to register.
Applicants should complete the application form and upload the required three letters of recommendations (two from academic referees, and one non-academic referee) and transcripts of all post-secondary study. Refer to the Trudeau Scholarships FAQ page for guidance on the application and accompanying documents.
Applicants should email email@example.com to confirm they have made an application. The University will review applications submitted to the Trudeau portal and nominate 3 students to go forward. The Postgraduate Research Student Office will contact you with the outcome of the nomination process and the next steps.
