Upgrade to an MSc degree

After you have completed the Postgraduate Certificate in Africa and International Development, you can use the 60 credits from the Certificate courses towards a Masters (MSc) Degree. If you wish to progress onwards to an MSc, there are two main options available:

MSc International Development (online distance learning)

You will need to take a further 60 credits. This is made up from two compulsory courses (Global Development Challenges and Researching International Development) plus one further optional course.  Please see MSc International Development (online distance learning) for more information.

MSc Africa & International Development (on-campus)

Alternatively, you may decide to come to Edinburgh in person to do our on-campus MSc in Africa and International Development programme. If you decide to do this, you will need to take 60 credits of courses (that is, 3 courses) in Edinburgh and complete an MSc dissertation. Please see MSc Africa and International Development for more information.

Note: after you finish the Postgraduate Certificate in Africa and International Development, if you wish to take a period of time away from studies before progressing to an MSc degree, you are allowed to take a break of 1 to 2 years before resuming studies in one of the MSc programmes above. Your credits will be stored.
