The Graduate School Office and Social Committee organise a number of social and fund-raising events throughout the year. Including:
The Start of Year Ceilidh
At the start of the academic year we host a Ceilidh (which is a party with Traditional Scottish Country dancing) to welcome our students to Edinburgh and to the School. We've edited together a short video to show you what you might expect.
Held in our very own Chrystal Macmillian Building - the Christmas party features a buffet, singing of traditional Christmas songs from our SPS Choir (new singers welcome) and a chance to talk, mingle, network, drink and be merry with your fellow students as well as staff.
In January we host a Burns Supper to raise funds for Scholarships as well as giving ourselves another excuse to socialise. If you don't know what a burns supper is - its a traditional Scottish Celebration in honour of the poet Robert Burns. We eat, drink listen to speeches and have a good time. We've edited a small video showing some highlights from the speeches at a recent one:
The Final Fling
The last event we host is in spring and is more a 'club' night - "No Speeches; No Tartan; No Raffles".
Of course this is just the tip of the iceberg, the school also organises seminars, conferences and other events that give our students the chance to network and meet new people. And, of course, we find that our students have no difficulty enjoying Edinburgh and what is has to offer in more informal social groupings of their own choosing.
