Name: Unis Khairun Nisa
From: Indonesia
Degree: MSc in Global Health and Public Policy
Graduated: 2011
Doing now: Director of a private surgery hospital in Indonesia
What were you doing before you applied to the MSc?
I was working as a Dental Health Clinic Coordinator and Dentist
Why did you apply to the programme?
Firstly, I was inclined to find out more about the elements that influence people's health on a greater level than just health facility level and what can be done to improve it. I wanted to get involved in the development field, and health is one of the most important parameters. Secondly, it is THE University of Edinburgh- its excellent reputation cannot be disputed! Thirdly, the bonus of living in Edinburgh, my favourite city in the UK was irresistible :)
What are your best memories from your time studying here?
Countless memories: The people I met who now have become close friends; my first proper snowy-winter; walking around the city was magical; visiting the Highlands.
What's it like being a student in Edinburgh?
It was the best experience I ever had as a student. My student-time in my own country was nowhere like the time I had in Edinburgh. The course and everyone involved in it was committed to have the students excel by providing supportive environment. I found support in every possible way to ensure that my studies were going to have a successful completion. It was hectic, demanding and could get quite stressful but it was also rewarding.
What have you done since graduating?
I have started working as a Director for a private surgery hospital in Indonesia whilst also still working as a dentist.
