Ethnographic analysis of development programmes to establish and grow rural markets for small-scale renewable energy technologies in sub-Saharan Africa
My research is driven by interests in rural energy access issues and the increasing levels of international funding for low carbon development. It focusses on the role of development intermediaries in creating rural markets for renewable energy products. I'll be undertaking ethnographic analysis of two case study programmes, starting with an NGO that supports energy entrepreneurs in Kenya and Uganda.
My supervisors are Dr Thomas Molony and Professor Donald MacKenzie.
