PhD Research:

In my thesis I trace the practice and articulation of anti-colonial politics in education in the Canadian North. I explore the ways in which Indigenous-state relations are being engaged, resisted and rearticulated in explicitly political and cultural post-secondary educational contexts.

My thesis is broadly inspired by questions around the limits and possibilities of different discourses of politics - and of the pervasive discourses of state, legal or juridical politics in particular. I am concerned with the intersections of those discourses with colonial power and its resistance. I am concerned with education as a site of those intersections and their negotiation.

I am working with two projects: an Inuit law school in Nunavut and a land-based bush university in the Northwest Territories. Both projects draw on, articulate and relate different versions of knowledge and politics. Both therefore formulate and negotiate the above questions. I am a participant in as well as a researcher on both of these projects.
