Alison Wheatley

Biography

I hold a BA (first class hons) in Sociology with a Specialism in Research Methods and an MA Social Research with Distinction, both from the University of Warwick. I moved to Edinburgh after being awarded the Innogen-supported James Jackson Studentship in 2011 to study for a PhD in Science and Technology Studies.

Research Interests

My PhD research is on the construction of sperm donation in Denmark, focusing on themes of identity (and particularly masculinity), commodification, and morality/ethics.

I have a long-standing interest in the topic of donor insemination, having completed my undergraduate dissertation on the role of the internet in the experiences of those invested in DI, and my masters thesis on UK media representations of Anglo-Danish reproductive tourism.
