A message from the Programme Director

Barbara Bompani

Welcome to the web pages for the MSc in Africa and International Development* in the Graduate School of Social and Political Science at the University of Edinburgh. I hope in these pages you will find all the information you are looking for. If you do not, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Drawing on the Centre of African Studies' long-standing reputation as a global hub of Africanist expertise and building on the University of Edinburgh's cross disciplinary expertise on development through the Global Development Academy, this masters programme is open to students and professionals looking to develop a deeper understanding of the complex dynamics of international development and how they play out in an African context.

On the following pages you can find more information about the structure of the programme, the courses we offer, current and past students who have studied African development in Edinburgh, the internship scheme attached to this programme and about the scholarships available for our MSc.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes, Barbara

The Centre of African Studies (CAS) provides an amazing environment for students. CAS has gone beyond my expectations, offering additional weekly seminars, a departmental retreat, and hosting an African film festival. The CAS is an inclusive community, where the diversity of the students and staff is only surpassed by the depth of the literature and subject matter. The city itself is an amazing setting to undertake your studies, from its incredible architecture to its friendly inhabitants
