Scholarships

Additional information: 

  • There are four fully funded DfID Shared Scholarships for citizens of developing Commonwealth countries for the academic year 2012-13. These scholarships cover tuition fees, subsistence and travel to study in the School of Social and Political Science.  These scholarships will be awarded to Commonwealth citizens who are accepted for admission on a full-time basis for the Master's programme in Africa and International Development. Applicants should already have been offered an unconditional place at the University of Edinburgh and should have firmly accepted that offer or be intending to do so. Please note: this is a very competitive scheme; past successful candidates for these Scholarships have all held a First Class Honours degree. 
  • University of Edinburgh graduates receive a 10% discount in postgraduate tuition fees. The Graduate Discount scheme applies to both home and overseas students
  • The University of Edinburgh will offer Master's fee payment for outstanding UK/EU applicants under its UK/EU Master's Scholarship Scheme  
  • Edinburgh Global Academy will offer up to 40 Edinburgh Global Master's Scholarships for postgraduate study in any subject for the 2012-2013 academic session. These scholarships will be awarded to overseas students who are accepted for admission on a full-time basis for a Master's programme at the University of Edinburgh. Ten scholarships will have a value of £5,000 each while a further twenty scholarships will have a value of £3,000 which will be tenable for one academic year.
  • Every year there are up to two fully funded Southern African Scholarships for citizens of southern African countries to study for postgraduate degrees at the University of Edinburgh
  • Melvyn Cornish Master's Scholarship for students from Southern Africa.
    This partial scholarship will be awarded to a student from a Southern African country for postgraduate Master's study for the 2012-2013 academic session
  • The Julius Nyerere Scholarship will fully fund two Tanzanian citizens per annum to study for any MSc at the University of Edinburgh. Please note: The Julius Nyerere Master’s Scholarships are highly competitive and only the best candidates are considered. Prospective applicants should note that, to date, successful candidates for the Scholarships have all held a First Class Honours degree.
  • The Canon Collins Trust funds Southern African students to undertake one year postgraduate training in the UK 
  • The Chevening Scholarship Scheme, funded by the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office, provides funding for international students to pursue 12 month masters at UK universities
