A message from the Programme Director

Welcome to the web pages for this new MSc in International Development in the Graduate School of Social and Political Science at the University of Edinburgh.

This masters programme provides multidisciplinary training and perspectives on development theory, policy and practice for students and professionals seeking to build a career in public sector and non-governmental development agencies, consultancy and private business.

It draws on a long history of interdisciplinary research and consultancy in international development in the School of Social and Political Science – in particular Social Anthropology and Area Studies at the Centres for African Studies and South Asian Studies. Through its link with the Global Development Academy, the programme also builds on the University of Edinburgh's world class expertise on development.

There is also an opportunity for students to apply for work based projects with international development organisations as part of the programme. For a video describing as similar scheme on our sister programme in Africa and International Development, click here.

Edinburgh is not only widely regarded as the UK's most liveable city, it is also a diverse, dynamic place, with an engaged civil society and a broad community interested in international development.

Please use the menu on the right-hand side to find further information about the structure of the programme, the courses we offer, our teaching staff, current student testimony about their time in Edinburgh, and about the scholarships available for our MSc. Also check the FAQ section and if you still do not find everything you are looking for, do not hesitate to contact us (using the address below).

We are looking forward to hearing from you.
