Jaakko Kuosmanen, "Eyes on the ‘Unicorn’: On the Nature of the Human Right to Development"

The paper examines the nature of the moral human right to development. More specifically, it tackles a challenge set by Jack Donnelly in his famous text on the right to development: ‘there is no such thing as moral human right to development’. The paper claims that a moral human right to development that follows the legal account outlined in the UN Declaration on the Right to Development is prima facie redundant, and its final vindication is dependent on whether such right has any meaningful practical function within the broader paradigm of valid moral human rights.
