In this seminar, Rhodri will introduce claim-specific citation network analysis and discuss its application in the detection of two outcomes of selective citation – citation bias and research underutilisation. The methodology applies social network analysis and graph theory to citation and textual data collected from scientific papers to analyse the diffusion of experimental evidence and its effect on published scientific opinion. He will tell us about his recent study that applied this method alongside a novel sub-graph analysis to exactly document citation bias and research underutilisation in reviews addressing the appropriateness of fat modified diets in the secondary prevention of coronary heart disease.
This event will take place on Thursday, October 19 from 1pm-2.15pm in the Practice Suite (1.12) on the 1st floor of the Chrystal Macmillan Building.
