Biographical Statement

Giovanni Bochi studied Social Anthropology at the London School of Economics, where he completed first an MSc (2002) and then a PhD (2007). He did his doctoral fieldwork mainly in northern Lebanon in the context of a changing border area. His work focused on issues of ethnicity, work and mobility among a community of Syrians moving across the border between Syria and Lebanon. As part of his Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Centre for the Advanced Study of the Arab World (CASAW), he is now planning to carry out more research on forms of political and social activism in Lebanon.
