Why study Social Policy at Edinburgh?

Located at the heart of power

Home to the Scottish Parliament, the city of Edinburgh offers the perfect location to study Social Policy. We work closely with the Scottish Government and other policy making institutions and have very strong European links.

Ranked amongst the UK's top 5

Social Policy at Edinburgh is consistently ranked amongst the UK's top 5* attracting the highest calibre of students to the programme. In the most recent RAE, 30% of our research in Social Work and Social Policy & Administration was rated 4* world leading with an additional 35% rated internationally excellent.

A comparative approach

We take a comparative approach to Social Policy. As a recently devolved polity, Scotland is an exciting place to observe contemporary developments in government and the country lends itself to comparison with other parts of the UK, other sub-state entities and other small countries.

Flexibility and choice

At Edinburgh, we believe that breadth of study is just as important as depth. Study with us, and you'll have the opportunity to elect courses from across the College of Humanities and Social Science and further afield. You'll gain new skills and develop different ways of thinking.

Study abroad

Take the opportunity to study abroad in your third year through the ERASMUS programme or the University's International Exchange Programme. Studying abroad is an invaluable opportunity to experience a different society, culture and to study another countries policy-making systems.
