Description
Internet Use and Patient Activism in a Controversial Theory about Multiple Sclerosis
This project explores how the internet has and is being used by patients, practitioners and researchers in relation to Chronic Cerebrospinal Venous Insufficiency (CCSVI), a proposed cause for the symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis.
The aim is to develop a nuanced, contextually sensitive understanding of internet use on 'contested knowledge' in biomedicine, focusing on how online activities do or do not translate into changes to biomedical research priorities and funding as well as healthcare policy and practice.
