The research project ‘International Organisations and the Rise of a Global Metrological Field’ (2017-2021, €1.2m) will examine the interplay of IOs in the production of global metrics, with a particular focus on the policy fields of education and sustainable development.

Through their collaborative practices of quantification and commensuration, IOs both constitute new realities and are being reconstituted themselves. METRO (in its Greek definition: to measure) is a two-fold enquiry: a. an in-depth investigation of the labour of the joint production of metrics; and b. an examination of the ways this labour reconfigures interdependencies between IOs and hence the field of transnational governance itself.
