Background
I joined PIR in October 2024 as a Research Fellow on INSPIRE (Intersectional Spaces of Participation: Inclusive, Resilient, Embedded). . I am also a Senior Research Associate at the Centre for Deliberative Democracy and Global Governance at the University of Canberra.
My research covers the theory and practice of deliberative democracy. I am especially interested in the ethics, integrity and governance of deliberative processes such as citizens' assemblies. I am committed to conducting research that strengthens the practice of democratic innovations. I led the empirical research for the Deliberative Integrity project. My current research at PIR focuses on the political and economic forces that shape participation practice.
My PhD research investigated the representation of nonhuman animals in the foxhunting debate. I am a co-founder of Animals in the Room, an international collaborative effort to enhance the inclusion of other animals in decisionmaking processes that affect them, through deliberative, participatory and creative methods.
I am co-editor of the Journal of Deliberative Democracy and editor of the Deliberative Democracy Digest.
