Biography
Russell Keat is Emeritus Professor in the School of Social and Political Science, where he was previously Professor of Political Theory and the first Head of School. He has recently completed work for an archive-based website about the feminist theatre company Monstrous Regiment.
His academic research is concerned with the ethical character and impact of market institutions, including issues about market boundaries, consumer sovereignty, cultural goods, and varieties of capitalism. Recent papers in this area can be found at www.russellkeat.net. Previous publications included Cultural Goods and the Limits of the Market (Palgrave 2000) and two collections co-edited with N Abercrombie and N Whiteley, Enterprise Culture (Routledge 1991/2012) and The Authority of the Consumer (Routledge 1994).
His earlier work included research on the philosophy of the social sciences (Social Theory as Science, with J Urry, Routledge 1975/1982/2012), Habermas's critical theory (The Politics of Social Theory, University of Chicago Press 1981) and phenomenology (Understanding Phenomenology, with M Hammond and J Howarth, Blackwell, 1991).
