Description
Founded in 1988, the Centre for Asian Studies (CSAS) is the central academic unit at the University of Edinburgh and indeed for much of Scotland dedicated to the study of South Asia. It brings together a group of highly reputable academic colleagues from across the University’s subjects and schools, including Social Anthropology Edinburgh College of Art; Engineering; Geography; History; Literatures, Languages and Cultures; Law; Politics and International Relations; Religious Studies; Sociology; and the Vet School to provide a vibrant core of academics that have a keen interest and expertise on South Asia.
CSAS has a number of honorary fellows and associated staff that are linked with our centre from across Scotland and northern Britain. It also established a reputation and ranks as one of the four leading centres for South Asian Studies in the UK and Europe more broadly.
The centre administers both junior and senior visiting fellowships and is committed to fostering formal links and exchange programmes with other universities such as the University of Colombo and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).
