School of Social and Political Science

Postdoctoral research

Content

The School of Social and Political Science is always keen to attract and promote the careers of the best early career scholars. Please get in touch if you are completing or have recently completed your PhD and are contemplating a postdoctoral research fellowship (PDRF). We welcome approaches both from our current doctoral students and from those studying elsewhere.

We have well developed policies and procedures to support new researchers in developing successful PDRF funding applications and supporting fellows, once funded, through active mentoring and research support and a lively research culture across the School.

Guidance on applying

SPS requires a mentor (SPS core staff) for all early-career fellowships. To apply, you must first identify, contact and have an agreed mentor for your proposed project application. Your mentor needs to be a permanent member of SPS academic staff with research interests aligned with your own. Academic profiles of SPS staff can be found on our web pages Subject Areas | School of Social and Political Science by clicking on 'People' under each of the seven Subject Areas. The project must have Head of Subject Area approval and this will be facilitated by the RO and your mentor during the application process.

The SPS Research Office welcomes any questions on post-doctoral research fellowships and can be reached at ssps.research@ed.ac.uk
