Description

On this paper, I analyse the role that advisers/brokers have while offering housing and political advice within the anti-eviction movement PAH in Madrid while fighting for housing rights and social justice. Brokers function as mediators between the welfare state and housing activists and help people accessing various limited resources. Their actions are framed in terms of collective forms of political care and solidarity pushed against neoliberal individualistic frameworks. Still, on an everyday basis they find themselves having to find a balance between individuals’ moral judgments and the collective good. They find themselves brokering care that might, at times, contradict the struggle for social justice.
