Gaza and the University: One Year On
Venue
G.07 Meadows Lecture TheatreDescription
In this roundtable discussion with academics and students hosted by the Politics and International Relations Middle East Research Group, we will reflect on the effects of the October 2023 events in Israel/Palestine on our academic environment at the University of Edinburgh. Speakers and audience will explore how the war has affected pedagogy and teaching even beyond Middle East expert research and teaching, debate the limitations and obstacles to academic freedom and freedom of speech within our institution in relation to research, teaching and public engagement on Palestine; we will examine the connections between national and global events and patterns, and our local practices; we will reconstruct the student-staff multi-racial and multi-religious divestment mobilisations which have marked the end of the last academic year, and which might continue in the new one.
