Description

Sushmita Pati, winner of the 2023 IPEG Annual Book Prize for her book Properties of Rent: Community, Capital and Politics in Globalising Delhi (Cambridge University Press) be delivering this hybrid keynote session.

Sushmita Pati says: "In this talk, I would bring together the dilemmas of trying to do political economy from the southern location. Who are we writing for? Who is our audience? Are we only theorising difference? Is there a fundamental difference between doing political economy "for" the Global South and "from" the Global South"? What are the possible ethical and political dilemmas of doing either and both? Drawing upon my earlier and my current work, I would like to talk about the limits, possibilities and difficulties of doing both."
