Description

You are warmly invited to view a photography exhibition and documentary film culminating from a community project led by Networking Key Services (NKS) on the oft-overlooked history of South Asians in Scotland, with a view to promoting awareness and understanding of its place in Scotland’s rich and diverse heritage. Over light refreshments, come find out from the project team what went into the making of the exhibition and the film! The Centre for South Asian Studies and the Edinburgh South Asian Association at the University of Edinburgh are proud to support this event.

NKS has long been a pillar of support and empowerment for South Asian communities in Edinburgh. Operating through an asset-based model, the organisation works to ensure that individuals and families are not just supported, but also enabled to take ownership of their personal and collective growth.

Whether through health, education, or heritage, NKS continues to champion visibility, voice, and value for minority communities.

The History and Heritage of South Asian Legends, project was born from NKS' work with the National Museum of Scotland. While reviewing South Asian artefacts displayed in the Museum, the NKS team became deeply interested in the individual stories behind the objects – stories of resilience, innovation, and influence. This curiosity resonated within the community as well. People wanted to know more about the South Asian figures who played important roles in shaping Scottish and British society. By sharing the often-overlooked stories of these figures, NKS aims to promote education, inspiration, and ultimately, a more inclusive understanding of Scotland’s rich and diverse heritage.
