Description

Part poetry reading, part reflection on ethnographic ethics and epistemology, this presentation grows out of my research with sex workers, drug addicts, and businesswomen in Kyrgyzstan, social categories that are still grappling with the legacies of being criminalized as parasites during the Soviet era. I hope to use the space of this seminar to explore the ethnographer’s role as a parasite, as well as poetic modalities of entanglement and dependency, embodying the parasite’s ethos of being with/in others.
