Description

Food sovereignty is an increasingly important issue in Palestine, as food producers, activists and civil society organisations seek to revive traditional agricultural practices and crop varieties in the face of the twin threats of climate change and Israel’s occupation. In this talk I introduce three recent Palestinian art projects that engage with Palestinian food sovereignty: Jumana Manna’s Foragers (2022), Larissa Sansour’s In Vitro (2019), and Vivien Sansour’s Palestine Heirloom Seed Library (2014 – ). I discuss the role of environmental arts and culture in shaping the politics of food in Palestine and in mediating Palestine to metropolitan audiences.
