Research Training Centre Workshop - Surviving the Reproducibility Crisis: A guide for quantitative social scientists

PhD students and early career researchers are welcome to join this workshop, which is running over two weeks as part of the Advanced Methods Workshops Course on these dates:

  • Tuesday 27 September 14:10-17:00 (SCS 1.03, 13-15 South College Street)
  • Monday 3 October 10:00-10:50 (Sydney Smith Lecture - Doorway 1, Medical School, Teviot)

As social scientists we aim to influence social policy, to improve people's lives and build better societies, but we are increasingly recognising that the way we do quantitative social science research may have unintended consequences and negative outcomes for research quality. There is increasing concern across a wide range of academic disciplines that statistical results cannot be reproduced because of a lack of transparency in the research process.

This workshop will introduce you to the arguments for why we need to improve our research practices in quantitative social science, and you will learn skills which will allow you to produce transparent and reproducible quantitative social science research. Take this workshop to find out why our politicians started standing weird, if eating potatoes is bad for teenagers, and how you can open black boxes to improve the quality of statistical research.
