The Social Work Race, Racism and Anti-Racism group at the University of Edinburgh is a student-staff group. In partnership with the School of Social and Political Science EDI committee it is running an in-person event on 23 April 2025, 3:00 - 5:00pm in Room 2.35 of the Edinburgh Futures Institute.
The event will be a screening of the Education episode of the Steve MacQueen directed series Small Axe which appeared on the BBC a few years go. This episode focusses on the discriminatory placement of Black school children in 'special education needs’ provision in London area in early 1970s.
The event will consist of the screening of the programme then panellist thoughts and comments and a Q&A.
Confirmed panel speakers currently are Dr Kamal Ibrahim (Social Worker at Multicultural Family Base, Edinburgh) and Dr Omolabake Fakunle (Senior Lecturer and Chancellor’s Fellow in Education, University of Edinburgh).
