World Refugee Day 2024
Venue
Online via ZoomDescription
Join us to mark World Refugee Day 2024, jointly organised by the Protracted Crisis Research Centre, University of the West of Scotland; Global Refugee Health Research Network, University of Edinburgh; and the Centre of Statelessness and Refugee Studies, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, India.
Opening remarks and reflections will be made by Kholoud Homsi, Relief Services Officer at United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), Jordan, offering invaluable insights in her talk titled: "A Path Forward: Navigating Challenges and Opportunities in Refugee Aid for Palestine Refugees".
The event will also host the Protracted Crisis Research Centre Annual Lecture. This year, the Annual Lecture is inspired by the UN theme for World Refugee Day and Refugee Week 2024 on Home and Hope "Home Reimagined: Pathways to Stability in a World on the Move" focusing on the complex challenges and innovative solutions in redefining "home" for displaced populations, with a special emphasis on the current crises in Ukraine and Gaza.
We are also excited to present a special session by an Indian post-doc scholar who will share his personal experiences and insights on the meaning of "home" on the broader implications of creating a sense of home in displacement. “Finding Home: A Post-Doc Scholar's Journey through Displacement and Discovery” promises to provide a unique, personal perspective
Finally, a panel discussion on: "Building Bridges: Collaborative Efforts in Refugee Resettlement and Integration" will explore the collaborative efforts required for effective refugee resettlement and integration. Panellists will explore best practices, share successful case studies, and discuss how to overcome common challenges in creating sustainable and inclusive communities for refugees.
We hope you can join us for this thought-provoking event that seek to enhance our understanding of and responses to global displacement and refugee health.
