SPS alumnus becomes Member of Legislative Assembly in India
School of Social and Political Science (SPS) graduate Darshan Dhruvanarayana has been elected to the Legislative Assembly in the Indian state of Karnataka.
Darshan, a member of the Indian National Congress Party, was elected on 13 May to represent the Nanjangud Assembly Constituency in Karnataka. At just 28, he is currently the youngest Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in the state.
Darshan graduated from the MSc Public Policy programme at the University of Edinburgh in 2020.
Darshan said: “The Public Policy programme at the School of Social and Political Science helped me to prepare effectively for my present leadership role by offering courses that enhanced my professional knowledge, skills and leadership abilities within my organisation. The University, and more importantly the City of Edinburgh, offered me a warm environment that made me feel at home and the course has definitely prepared me to tackle situations and cross hurdles that I experience on a daily basis while discharging my duties as an elected Member of Legislative Assembly in Karnataka, one of the largest states of India.”
Congratulations, Darshan, on this wonderful achievement!
