School of Social and Political Science (SPS) student Jana Alramahi represented the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as a youth delegate at the 2024 United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Jana represented her home country at the 79th session of the UNGA – the policymaking wing of the UN – in New York City. This session included the Summit of the Future, where issues of climate, poverty, inequality, conflict and global health challenges were discussed.

Jana was also involved in the UN’s International Youth Conference (IYC) Summit of the Future, which took place alongside the UNGA. She gave a talk on the importance of the role of youth and higher education institutions in climate action.

Jana, an MA Politics student at SPS, said: “The course has provided me with a strong foundation in international relations, policy analysis and global governance, all of which were invaluable in preparing me for my time at the UNGA. The discussions in class, coupled with exposure to real-world case studies, gave me the confidence to engage in high-level dialogues at the United Nations. I feel the course is equipping me with the critical thinking and leadership skills necessary for a future career in diplomacy.”
