Off-Grid Solar Repair: Evaluating and Evidencing Impact

Principal investigator

Principal investigator

Overview

Description

Funded by the Leverhulme Trust through an Early Career Fellowship (2025-2028), the project is part of a joint effort by SolarAid, GOGLA, 60 Decibels, and the University of New South Wales to restructure the off-grid solar industry around the pursuit of repair and repairability for solar-powered electronics.

It seeks to contribute anthropological insights for the creation of a framework to evaluate and evidence the impact of repair, in a way that does justice to the complex realities of repair-service provisioning in low-resource contexts.

The insights will be developed through a mixed-method approach to data collection, and in comparative perspective across Southeastern Africa (Zambia, Malawi) and Francophone West Africa (Senegal).
