UK job search for international students presents an array of specific and unique challenges for many reasons. No matter at what stage you are at with your studies, this session will help you feel more confident about navigating your UK job search. The session is split into two parts.
Part One- Job Search:
· Where to look for opportunities and the difference between internships, placements, graduate schemes and entry level jobs. You will understand what types of opportunities you should be applying for based on your year of studies. You will be provided with practical resources and websites you can use to help you job search smarter not harder.
· The importance of UK work experience and advice on ways to gain valuable and relevant work experience in your chosen field.
Part Two: Networking & Professional etiquette
· How to approach employers and recruiters appropriately in the UK. Professional etiquette in a UK context, cross cultural communication awareness and things to avoid as an international student when networking and engaging with UK professionals
· The struggles international students face when trying to establish professional relationships and connections and how to successfully overcome these and make networking work for you.
· How to maximise your LinkedIn to establish and maintain an impressive online professional presence
This session is led by Bianca Praino. Bianca Praino is a qualified and experienced Career Consultant and Founder of Praino Careers, a unique careers consultancy specialising in bespoke and tailored career advice to international candidates struggling with their UK job search.
With over ten years’ experience working in various educational settings across UK, Europe and Asia, supporting diverse client groups, Bianca knows all too well the unique challenges and barriers faced by international candidates when navigating their career in a UK context.
She has supported hundreds of international students and established professionals to achieve UK success. Her own experience of living abroad gives her a global outlook on careers and an innate interest in how socio-cultural nuances play a key factor in influencing career decisions, helping her to provide relevant and meaningful advice to international candidates.
