Description

Are you interested in Scottish and UK Politics? Do you wish you could discuss the newest elections and the future of your country with a team of experts?

If so, this event was made for you!

Now that we have cast our votes, there is naturally a great deal of speculation about the incoming Scottish government and the increasingly difficult situation it will face. To move the country forward, public and private social actors need to coordinate and collaborate: think tanks, academics and voters have been rallying behind the increasingly pressing need to tackle deeply complex problems, requiring long-term planning and overarching cross-party agreements.

Therefore, there is a real need for a fresh discussion to inspire future collaboration.

The event starts with a symposium where each expert briefly presents their research, followed by a discussion where you will be able to ask questions.

You will get to meet expert panelists:

Alan Convery, Senior Lecturer in UK Politics and Territorial Politics.

  • Alan has just co-published a fascinating article with Fraser about how patterns of Scottish polarisation can inhibit or facilitate resistance to populist radical right. His expertise is invaluable in our present situation.

Alison Payne, Research Director at the Scottish think tank Enlighten.

  • Conducting day-to-day research about Scottish politics and attending events with various political experts, Alison brings an overarching, well-informed look into upcoming challenges.

Fraser McMillan, Co-Investigator of the 2026 Scottish Election Study and lecturer in Scottish Electoral Politics.

  • Fraser is particularly well-versed in individual-level voting behaviour and will have extremely fresh survey data available to analyse.

Leah McCabe, lecturer in British Politics.

  • Leah has expertise in contentious policymaking in the UK, exploring policy framings, debates and conflicts over time. She will bring additional insights from her research into VAWG and abortion policies.
