Description

This June, the Edinburgh Centre for Medical Anthropology is launching ‘The Writer’s Block’, a series of dedicated writing days, and the beginning of a year-long programme of writing and thinking together & over time.

The title plays with both the problem and the promise of academic writing. The block is the obstacle we meet when words will not come, but it is also a block of protected time, and a name for the small & cumulative work through which scattered blocks of writing become a draft.

Our June 2026 writing days will offer structured time to write together. These will be Pomodoro-style sessions, with brief check-ins at the beginning and end of each writing session, and good long stretches of protected writing time in between. All are welcome.

June writing blocks:

All sessions run 10am - 5pm (drop in as you can!)

Open to Medical and Social Anthropology Staff and PhD Students only!
