Everything I Learned, I Learned in a Chinese Restaurant, with Curtis Chin
Venue
LG.09, 40 George SquareDescription
Join us for a conversation with award-winning author and filmmaker, Curtis Chin.
Chin’s memoir, Everything I Learned, I Learned in a Chinese Restaurant, is about growing up as a Chinese American kid in 1980’s Detroit, coming out as gay in a working-class immigrant community, and finding his way as a first-generation college student at the University of Michigan.
The book was selected by the National Lesbian and Gay Journalist Association for Excellence in Book Writing and has earned many other awards and accolades. In addition to the book, Chin is working on a docuseries about the history of Chinese restaurants in the United States, a project that builds on the memoir, which has a chapter structure organized around the menu of his parents’ Chinese restaurant.
