Figuring Kinship: A Colloquium on Relations, Finance, Capitalism, and the Environment
Venue
Seminar Room 1Chrystal Macmillan Building
Description
How does kinship figure in – and (re)configure – ecologies and landscapes of finance and capitalism? And how might kinship’s various figurations be discerned through different sensorial means? Speakers will give ten-minute provocations on how kinship matters in processes of environmental and economic change, both at present and in the past. Speakers will share an image, a video clip, or an object from their research and/or personal life that addresses sensorial aspects of kinship’s significance. This will be followed by comments from Professors Sylvia Yanagisako, Kath Weston, and Janet Carsten, and a free-flowing discussion with members of the audience. Speakers include: Eda Pepi (Yale); Sian Lazar (Cambridge); Maya Mayblin (Edinburgh); Tatjana Thelen (Vienna); and Ann Zuntz (Edinburgh)
This event marks the launch of the Kinship: More or Less hub, and is in celebration of Professor Yanagisako’s visit and Munro Lecture. It is supported by Professor Weston’s British Academy Global Professorship Legacy Project.
Reception to follow.
